The ENHC would like to welcome Eleanor van Gunst; a Metis from the Red River area and who just received her MA in psychology.
Nothing is impossible; the word itself says ‘I’m possible’!
Hello, my name is Eleanor and I would like to tell you a bit about me and why the above quote from Audrey Hepburn echoes my approach to counselling. I grew up in Red Deer, but have called Edmonton home for 30 years, sharing 13 of them with my supportive husband. I am currently completing studies to become a counsellor. Having recently learned that I am Métis I wanted to learn more about traditional Aboriginal teachings and culture by gathering wisdom from peoples experiences while at the Edmonton Native Healing Centre. I have studied many theories that report effectiveness for mental health treatment; however, I prefer to use more creativity in helping individuals reach the goals they set for themselves; such as colouring for anxiety and crafts to increase self-esteem. Really, I am open to almost any suggestion and the above quote explains how I feel about any individual wanting to make changes in their life. In my free time, I enjoy gardening, cooking, sewing, crafts, listening to music, and spending time with family, friends and my adorable, elderly cat.
